The SAOZ-Pk2 sounder with visual alarm device is designed to emit fire alarm warning, alternately with an acoustic signal and an optical (visual) signal, both in outdoor and indoor (internal and external) fire alarm systems. The device meets the requirements of the standards: EN 54-23:2010 and EN 54-3:2001+A1:2002+A2:2006.

The alarm device has a nonflammable plastic casing that contains electronic components. In the casing shade, there is flash-lamp with the construction based on power LEDs. The body of the signalling device contains a power supply connector and a 6-position microswitch with which it is possible to: select the operating mode of the alarm device, i.e. „master” or „slave”, sound pattern (1 of 4), reduce the volume of the alarm device approx 6 dB (step change), reduce coverage area and the “lamp off delay” function.

Operating design:

After connecting the power supply voltage, the SAOZ-Pk2 device generates an optical pulse signal and an acoustic signal consistent with the current settings. The frequency of the generated optical signal is 0.56 Hz. The light-generating element is a lamp, placed in a housing (diffuser) that creates an optical system. The SAOZ-Pk2 signaling device enables the creation of a network of signaling devices operating synchronously (synchronized acoustic and optical parts).

Working with WSD-1:

The SAOZ-Pk2 alarm device is also compatible with the WSD-1 switch. If the alarm devices are operating in a network, connecting the WSD-1 switch to the master alarm device disables the acoustic signal of all the alarm devices in the network, while connecting the WSD-1 switch to the slave alarm device disables the acoustic signal in only that particular alarm device.

Delay in switching off the optical signal:

The SAOZ-Pk2 alarm device has a delay function for switching off the optical signal. It can be used when the WSD-1 switch is connected to the device and the LD microswitch is set to ON. In this configuration, pressing the WSD-1 switch immediately turns off the acoustic signal and switches off the flashing lamp with a delay of approx. 120 seconds. After this time, both the acoustic and optical signals are inactive.

Reduced coverage area mode:

SAOZ-Pk2 has a possibility to switch on the reduced coverage area (LP microswitch – ON). Activating the mode reduces the solid of light distribution generated by the optical module. In the reduced coverage area mode and reduced volume mode, the alarm device draws <50 mA (at rated power 24 V DC).

The SAOZ-Pk2 sounder with VAD is available in varieties:

Varieties Description
SAOZ-Pk2 sounder with visual alarm device in red housing, red light, red lamp
SAOZ-Pk2/śb sounder with visual alarm device in red housing, white light, white lamp
SAOZ-Pk2/śbcz sounder with visual alarm device in red housing, alternating red and white light, white lamp

To open the alarm device you should: remove the screws securing the cover to the body and remove the cover.

To close the alarm device you should: place the cover on the alarm device body and then tighten the mounting screws.

Assembly recommendations:

SAOZ-Pk2 devices should be connected to the FAS installation via junction boxes with the required class of maintaining electrical functions (PIP-3AN/0.75A recommended). If there is no need to use the synchronization option for SAOZ-Pk2, it is also possible to install them through the PIP-1AN/0.375A or PIP-2AN/0.375A installation box, maintaining the following information regarding the mounting method.

The box should be mounted to a surface/wall that has the required fire resistance. Detailed guidelines for the installation of installation boxes are included in the National Technical Assessment CNBOP-PIB-KOT-2019/2024/0113-3704 wydanie 1.

SAOZ-Pk2 devices can operate in a network (synchronization of the acoustic and optical parts). Devices that are to be synchronized with each other should be connected with an additional wire marked as S. Only one signaling device in the network should be set as MASTER, the rest as SLAVE. The figure below shows an example synchronization diagram of the SAOZ-Pk2, SAO-P8, SA-P8 devices.

Activation of the WSD-1 switch connected to the MASTER device silences the entire line of devices operating in the network. Activation of the switch connected to the device operating in SLAVE mode turns off the acoustic part only in the device to which WSD-1 is connected.

  • In order to properly synchronize with the same or other types of devices, each device operating in the network must have the same sound pattern selected.
  • The sound level control works locally and applies to the device in which the setting is changed.
  • When synchronizing SAOZ-Pk2 devices with P8 series devices, it is recommended that one of the P8 series device operates in MASTER mode and the remaining devices in the network operate in the SLAVE mode.

SAOZ-Pk2 devices can also be synchronized with other signals produced by W2:

  • SA-K5N and SA-P8 / acoustic part
  • SO-P8 / optical part
  • SA-K7N and SAO-P8 / acoustic and optical part

Depending on the selected settings, coverage area changes.

The drawing below shows a cross-section of the photometric solid of the SAOZ-Pk2 device (red light) installed at a height of 3 m for the following settings:

  • full volume (VOL – OFF) and full coverage area (LP – OFF)

Diagram below shows how to interpret cross-sections at a distance h from the device axis.
